GeoEnergy Discovery Centre
Rocking Geothermal Roadshow
The GeoEnergy Discovery Centre is set to go on a geothermal roadshow and visit multiple locations across Northern Ireland as we aim to help visitors ‘unearth the heat beneath their feet’ and find out more about geothermal energy in Northern Ireland.
The GeoEnergy Discovery Centre is a key part of the GeoEnergy NI project being delivered by the Department for the Economy (DfE), with scientific support from the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI).

Geothermal drilling and testing
Interested group visitors, by prior arrangement, will also be able view GeoEnergy NI drilling and testing works at the various sites throughout the Stormont Estate, near the GeoEnergy Discovery Centre.
Location
The GeoEnergy Discovery Centre is located within the Civil Service grounds of the Stormont Estate, which is private access. Groups can visit the centre by prior appointment only.
The GeoEnergy NI team will liaise with the booking organiser on precise location and directions once your visit is confirmed.
A teacher’s pack aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils has been developed which fits in with the ‘Movement and Energy’ and ‘Earth and Universe’ elements of the World Around Us CCEA Primary Curriculum. The contents could also be adapted for Key Stage 3 Geography and Science.
It contains a series of activities, supported by background information for teachers, all of which have been designed to demonstrate what geothermal energy is. It will allow teachers to explore the geothermal potential of Northern Ireland by understanding how the heat beneath our feet is created and how it can be used to contribute to net zero by 2050 and security of supply.
