GeoEnergy NI Project release initial findings
To Align with Northern Ireland Executive’s net zero targets for the energy sector, the GeoEnergy NI project undertook geothermal exploratory and feasibility studies at two different locations on both the Stormont Estate and CAFRE Campus (Co. Antrim), with the aim of helping us ‘unearth the heat beneath our feet’ and gain a deeper understanding of the potential benefits of utilising Geothermal Energy within Northern Ireland.
Phase 1 of the project has now been completed with the drilling and exploration of boreholes at Stormont in Belfast and the successful application for a deep geothermal system at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) Greenmount Campus near Antrim. Extensive reporting and surveys were commissioned as part of the project and some of these reports are now available below –
