The GEMINI (Geothermal Energy Momentum on the Island of Ireland) project aims to advance geothermal energy adoption across the island of Ireland, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
Involving GSNI (Geological Survey of Northern Ireland), our partner in GeoEnergy NI over the last three years, the GEMINI project is a significant initiative aimed at promoting the use of geothermal energy in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. With a budget of £17.3 million, the project is designed to demonstrate the viability of geothermal energy systems and their applications in various sectors, including public buildings and community facilities.
Over the next four years the GEMINI project will help reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions associated with heat production, a goal central to EU, UK and Irish strategies to meet 2050 emissions targets. The project is led by Codema, Dublin’s Energy Agency, and is supported by the PEACEPLUS programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) and endorsed by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Ireland and the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland.
